Tuccaro - Canada’s leading, private, Aboriginal group of companies

Tuccaro

The roots of our company run deep in Fort McMurray, nourished by the spirit of the people here. We share the same values – loyal, hard-working and independent – and the same dreams to help our community to grow and prosper.

In 1985 our first company, Neegan, was providing essential services to oil sands companies. But equally important to us was providing essentials to the people in the Fort McMurray region, like opportunity, employment and pride. That motivated us to grow, because when we grew, so did our ability to help the community thrive.

We are Fort McMurray through and through. We started as a private, aboriginal owned Fort McMurray company and over 30 years later, we proudly remain a 100% private, 100% aboriginal owned Fort McMurray company. Today, we have grown into seven well-respected companies supplying essential services to companies, and people, in the region. Our head office is here, just as our heart is here.

As the world’s energy capital, Fort McMurray is vital to Canada’s future. We are proud to play our role in leading the region to a bright and prosperous future.

Dave Tuccaro – Founder, President and CEO

Dave_Tuccaro

A member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation in Fort Chipewyan, Dave joined Neegan Development Corporation as General Manager in 1991, and assumed the leadership role in 1993. As an Aboriginal entrepreneur and a proud supporter of community, educational and aboriginal development, he had the inspiration to grow businesses in Fort McMurray, for Fort McMurray. Within 5 years, 2 more successful service companies – Tuc’s Contracting (a trucking company) and Neegan Technical Services (laboratory and geotechnical services company) – were established. Additional companies have since followed, including WPS, Re-stock and TPS. Dave’s path from the small community of Fort Chipewyan to a leading aboriginal business person is a result of his vision, determination and commitment to make a difference in our community.

Awards

In April, 2013, Syncrude Canada held their annual Safety Forum and Awards Ceremony at Mildred Lake. The event is used by Syncrude and Imperial/Exxon as an opportunity to showcase areas for improvement and as well give positive feedback to companies that perform well at their sites. This year’s top safety performers (among contract companies site-wide) was Neegan Development & Neegan Technical Services Ltd. Neegan/NTS was presented with the 2012 President’s Award for Outstanding Contractor Safety Performance. Our Syncrude safety statistics were tied for first place with Aluma, who held the same top frequency rating. Syncrude’s President, Scott Sullivan along with the ‘Buddy Managers’, presented the award to Neegan-NTS. The ‘Buddy Manager’ may sound informal but this sophisticated mentorship program has helped both companies strive toward safety excellence over the years. In attendance to accept on the company’s behalf were Lawrence Tuccaro, Craig Jenkins, Kevin Best, Mike Jelly and Ouseph Alphonsea.
